About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking an experienced Planner / Senior Planner to support a major infrastructure programme based in London. This role will play a key part in driving delivery performance across a complex, multi‑disciplinary environment, ensuring robust planning, coordination, and execution across transport and public works projects. This is initially a 6 month contract with good prospects to extend and will be a hybrid role based in London.

This is a hands‑on planning role, ideal for someone confident working with delivery teams, challenging assumptions, and taking ownership of programme development from strategy through to execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement infrastructure strategies and integrated delivery plans across transport, utilities, and public works
  • Produce, manage, and continuously improve detailed delivery programmes, ensuring alignment with project objectives
  • Go beyond schedule creation by actively challenging delivery teams on sequencing, durations, and performance assumptions
  • Coordinate with engineering, commercial, and project teams to identify constraints, risks, and critical path dependencies
  • Conduct demand and capacity analysis to support planning decisions and prioritisation
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, planning, and governance requirements
  • Monitor progress against programme baselines and provide clear reporting and actionable insights
  • Support risk identification, mitigation planning, and scenario modelling
  • Engage with stakeholders to validate plans and ensure alignment across multiple workstreams

About You

  • Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline
  • 3–5 years’ experience for Planner level / 5–7 years for Senior Planner level
  • Strong working knowledge of planning tools such as Primavera P6 (essential)
  • Experience in infrastructure, construction, or major project environments
  • Understanding of land-use modelling, GIS, and design coordination (desirable)
  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to interpret complex datasets
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical detail to non-technical stakeholders

Must-Have

  • Proven experience in project planning within infrastructure or construction projects
  • Strong expertise in scheduling, critical path analysis, and dependency management
  • Hands-on experience creating and managing detailed project schedules
  • Ability to challenge delivery teams and drive improved planning outcomes
  • Experience working across multistakeholder environments
  • High attention to detail and structured approach to planning
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills

Nice to Have

  • Experience on large-scale infrastructure programmes (e.g. rail, transport, utilities)
  • Familiarity with programme controls, governance, and reporting frameworks
  • Experience working in complex, multiworkstream environments
  • Exposure to demand modelling or capacity planning methodologies
